My Body has been Colonized
This project joins poetry and visual art and is part of an exploration of my hegemonized, white female body. The text grapples with the sense of fragmentation and objectification that I experience as a result of gender and racial expectations of my appearance and behavior. I represent this through the physical fragmentation of the text and the female bodies, which are dismembered into abstraction. The use of fashion magazines as a material further underscores the concept of both overconcern with and disconnect from physical experience.
